Light Talk with The Lumen Brothers

LIGHT TALK with The Lumen Brothers (And SISTER!) is a place where lighting designers can feel free to express what really annoys them about the industry and the art of stage lighting design. Inspired by the beloved NPR radio show, CAR TALK, LIGHT TALK with The Lumen Brothers features the musings and rantings of David Jacques, Ellen Lampert-Greaux, Dennis Size, Zac Borovay, and Steve Woods. These five theatre artists have been producing and designing the live stages and broadcast events of the world for many, many decades. Burnt out and abused by the industry and the insanity of the profession, LIGHT TALK with The Lumen Brothers takes the rantings of these four theatre artists to the world. Look for our regularly scheduled Podcast discussing the issues of our time. Nothing is Taboo, Nothing is Sacred, and very little makes sense. Welcome to LIGHT TALK!

In this episode of LIGHT TALK, The Lumen Brothers interview our dear friend and collaborator, director Paul Curran.

Join Paul, Driscoll, Steve, and David as they pontificate about: A bar in Brooklyn; David "flawlessly" murdering Paul's bio; How a dancer turns into a director; Learning all those languages; Paul and Mike's move to San Francisco; King Tut and Osiris; Building a creative team; Programmers "running screaming from the building"; The synergy of ideas; What to train young directors about lighting design; Should designers study directing?; Throwing shade at Mariah and Elton; Broad strokes; How to get gigs overseas, and what to do when you get there; "Mrs. Curran's Opera Shop"; Being a part of the team in and out of the theater; Conductors and moving lights; Gobo Abuse; The next great fantasy invention in lighting; Paul dissing Drone Focus Deluxe; and Advice for young theatre artists getting started during the pandemic.

Nothing is Taboo, Nothing is Sacred, and Very Little Makes Sense.
